Mock exams: frequently asked questions

You get one official attempt. Taking the same mock exam multiple times could give you an inflated view of your skills, as you’d already know the questions. We want you to have an honest gauge of your readiness to ensure you address real gaps before exam day.

Start with whichever mock you like, it really does not matter. The mocks are designed to be equivalent, so there is no right one to begin with. What matters is doing them under realistic, timed conditions.

Take as many as you can, but quality matters more than quantity: - **Quality over quantity.** A mock only helps if you fully review it afterwards, working out why you missed each item and closing that gap. Two mocks reviewed thoroughly beat six rushed ones. - **Space them out.** Spreading mocks across your preparation builds more durable learning than cramming them into the final days. - **Diagnostics first, rehearsal later.** Early on, mocks show you where to focus; closer to the exam, full timed mocks build confidence and lock in pacing. - **Rule of thumb:** at least one full timed simulation in the final week to settle your pacing, plus enough earlier practice that the format and scoring hold no surprises. The goal is not to use up every mock, it is to learn the maximum from each one. The more simulations you do, the better, and since each one tests slightly different subtopics, all of them are relevant. There is no single mock that is more important than the others.

The mock exam runs for **2 hours**. When the time is up it closes automatically, just like the real exam, so you practise under the same time pressure.

Yes. The mock exams mirror the real exam's **difficulty and question style**. The main difference is timing: the mocks are deliberately tighter, with more tasks and less time per task, so you train under extra pressure. If you can finish a mock in time, you are very likely to finish the real (potentially slightly shorter) exam in time too.

Our mock exam mirrors the real exam as closely as possible. It contains the same number of questions, covers the same subject areas (math, English, economics), and follows the same structure and time format as the official paper exam at WU Vienna. The difficulty level and question style are calibrated to match what you will face on exam day. You will not encounter easier warm-up questions or simplified sections. The goal is that your first experience with exam conditions is not on the day of the real test. For 2027, the mock exam also reflects the updated scoring rules introduced in the WI2 format: incorrect answers now subtract points from your score. The simulation applies the same negative scoring logic, so you can practice when to answer and when to skip before it counts.

Yes, you can view your results in the future too. They appear immediately after you finish the simulation, and you can bookmark that page. With the **Pro Insights package** you can also reopen each task and view its step-by-step solution at any time afterwards.

WU does not publish past entrance exams, so original prior papers are not available anywhere. The closest way to practise on realistic material is our exam simulations, which are built to match the real exam's format, scoring, and difficulty. We wrote and recreated the past exams ourselves.

The simulation is built to match the real exam's **difficulty and question style**, with two deliberate differences: - **Paper vs. digital:** the real exam is written on paper; the simulation is digital. - **Timing:** the simulation is intentionally a bit tighter, with more tasks and less time per task than the real exam, to train you under extra pressure. So if you can finish the simulation in time, you will comfortably finish the real exam, which likely has fewer tasks and a little more breathing room.

Each exam simulation has **35 tasks**, each made up of 5 statements. The number of tasks for the 2026 exam has been confirmed to be 35 too.

Each attempt uses one mock-exam token, so how often you can take a mock depends on your token balance, in other words which product you bought and how many attempts it includes. Yes. On the mock platform you can move freely between all tasks: skip ahead, come back to earlier ones, and change answers at any time before you submit. This mirrors the real exam, where free navigation is also allowed.

There is no required order. Within a mock you can tackle the components in any sequence. We recommend **Economics, then Language (English), then Mathematics**. Across the different mock exams the order does not matter either, so start with whichever you like.
